Another ePetition launch

Brighton & Hove council is the latest to launch an ePetition facility at its Get Involved day on Saturday 21 November at Hove Town Hall. The day aims to get more people involved in local decision making and helping them understand how local democracy works.

Will the bill survive?

After a marathon third reading debate in the Commons yesterday the Local Democracy, Economic Development and Construction Bill was passed. It now goes briefly back to the House of Lords, which should be a formality, and is due to receive Royal Assent before the end of the month.

Significant action on ePetition

On September 11th, Gordon Brown issued an official statement of apology to Alan Turing, a mathematician who led the WWII code-breaking effort that broke Germany's Enigma codes and did pioneering work in the development of computers. Turing, who was gay, was convicted of "gross indecency" in 1952 and sentenced to chemical castration. He committed suicide two years later.
